Version 1

Annie get your gun (2009-10-Young Vic Theatre-London)

Type de série: Revival
Théâtre: Young Vic Theatre (Londres - Angleterre)
Salle : The Maria
Durée : 2 mois 2 semaines
Nombre :
Première Preview : Saturday 03 October 2009
Première : Friday 16 October 2009
Dernière : Saturday 02 January 2010
Mise en scène : Richard Jones
Chorégraphie : Phillipe Giradeau
Producteur :
Avec : Jane Horrocks ( Annie Oakley ), Julian Ovenden ( Frank Butler ), Chucky Venn (Buffalo Bill), John Marquez, Liza Sadovy, Buffy Davis, Niall Ashdown, Eric MacLennan
Commentaires : This production was very controversial. It had been updated to the 1940s, with film sequences of Annie getting medals from Churchill, Hitler and Stalin; it had been re-scored for four upright pianos; the “I’m an Indian Too” number had been cut; and the design included a kind of conveyor-belt, moving model water-towers, cactus plants and telegraph poles along (“like the one used for prizes in The Generation Game”). For some, Richard Jones’s production was brilliant, witty, startlingly revisionist and exciting. For others, “Jones is a theatrical show-off who feels the need to put his own personal and often malodorous mark on everything he directs, like a dog urinating on lampposts” (D. Telegraph). “Critics, get your blunderbuss” was the majority view of the direction, though everyone thought Julian Ovenden was the best-ever Frank Butler, most people loved Jane Horrocks’s Annie, and everyone recognised the succession of hit- songs as one of the great all-time Broadway scores.

Commentaires : This was a very large cast for a fringe venue, but its sexual politics were outdated in 1981, the first time round, and this revival was described as being tooth-rottingly sweet, out of the ark, and a piece of nostalgic curiosity.
